Just A Thought on Your Planning Thoughts
May 29, 2012

This is something that I find to be so interesting.  Just like in everyday life, we all have instincts or feelings on what we should do or what we should not do.  Some of these feelings are for smaller everyday things like what to wear, how to prepare your schedule for the day, or what dessert to bring to a dinner party.  And then we have instincts for larger things that happen in our lives like knowing whether or not to accept an offer for a new job, to move homes, buying a new car, or to decide to marry the person you love.

Just like trusting your instincts for your everyday life and for your more important decisions in life, you should trust your instincts on planning your wedding.  When you walk into the room and you just know that you found the right space, go with it!  When you meet with the right vendors and you just know that she or he is he right fit, book them!  When you see the table linen, the flowers, the china, the lighting, the chairs and you know it’s right, go with it!  It helps so much to just trust the little voice inside.

This is a couple who I had the pleasure of working with and believe me.  They hand picked everything and everyone for their wedding and when they knew something was right for them, they did it.  When something was not right for them, they moved on!  And believe me, they had a fantastic wedding!

When you know something is right in your everyday life, you do it.  Same thing should be for planning your wedding.  When you know, you know!

More Ways on How to Become a Wedding Planner
April 26, 2012
Another tip of the week on how to become a wedding planner.  Look for a course that you can take.  Not just any course, either online or in person in your local area, that is taught by a professional wedding planner.  Learning from someone who knows from first hand experience is really a great way to gain the knowledge that you will need to build a successful wedding planning business.

Wedding Planning Tips, What Are Necessary Items to Track in Your Wedding Guest List
April 12, 2012

This post answers the question on what is information should you be tracking on your wedding guest list. Here are some of the items you will need to track in a spread sheet program.

1. First & Last Name. Keep these in separate columns so that this way you will have an alphabetized list that you can give to your planner, hotel personnel or if the venue requires a list of the guests for security, you have it! It is also good to have to give your stationery an alphabetized list to do your place cards/escort cards so they can be easily placed on the day of the wedding.

2. You will want to keep track of their mailing addresses so you can easily send out the invitations.

3. Columns denoting if they are coming to the wedding or declining the invite.

4. If you are serving a plated dinner, what choice of entree will they be having. Keeping these choices in separate columns, ie, Chicken, Fish, Beef, Vegetarian, and denoting for each guest or couple what entree and how many of them they will have. This will be an easy way to total how many of each item so you have a count!

5. Finally, what table will they be sitting at so you can easily create a list that denotes the guest list by table number and entree selection which is something most hotels and caterers will want!

Wedding Planning Tips, What Are The Options of A Plated Dinner at a Wedding
April 10, 2012

This week we are talking about how to serve your guests at your wedding a plated, sit down dinner. The Tweet came from Wendy Pashman, the owner of The Entertaining Company , and asked me to talk about the importance of giving options to the guests when you decide to serve a plated, sit down dinner. Great topic to talk about Wendy!

You can see my thoughts above in the video, but in short, if you are serving a plated dinner, I think the best way to do this is to offer your guests a choice of entree or you have to offer them a duo plate to accommodate as many palates as possible! Check out my thoughts on this in the video!

I also had to share this photo as this was from a tasting I was at last week at The Entertaining Company. It was so delicious, I could not pass it up to post it! Monk Fish in a Butter Saffron Sauce, Smoked Corn Souffle, Medley of Sauteed Wild Mushrooms!! It was outstanding!!

Wedding Planning Tips, What You Need on Your Wedding Website
April 2, 2012

This question came in from one of our Twitter followers. She asked if she needed to do a wedding website. My thought is if you do a wedding website, using one of the programs from The Knot or My Wedding, you don’t have to do all of the personal information, rather have the information on the website about the wedding. Here are the three points that I would make sure are there.

  1. Where are there hotel rooms blocked and how to book them
  2. Is transportation provided or not
  3. The location of Ceremony & Reception
  4. What are some things to do around town before the wedding

Those are the most important pieces to be a part of the website if you have one!

Ask us your questions on Facebook or Twitter or comment in the blog below and we will answer them for you!
