Wedding Recap by Caterer!
October 18, 2012

We found ourselves working quite a few weddings this year with our colleagues at Blue Plate Catering.  Not only was their food phenomenal every time, their service to the brides, grooms, and their families was fantastic.  Helping behind the scenes, working hard to make every event be a wonderful experience for our couples.

Take a look at some of the weddings we produced in conjunction with Blue Plate and our colleagues at The Ivy Room, Cafe Brauer, The Chicago History Museum, Stems, Scarlet Petal, and David Rothstein Orchestra.

Tuesday’s Tip: It’s Your Wedding, Put Your Stamp on It!
October 16, 2012

I see so many weddings a year and every wedding seems to always have the same if not similar elements at each one.  There is always some sort of ceremony (which that is what makes it a wedding and not just a party!), some sort of cocktail reception or at least cocktails, a dinner of some sorts whether it is served on a plate, a station, or a tray, and dessert because everyone loves dessert!

A couple who’s wedding I recently did, completely made their wedding their own.  They were considered by some, non-traditional, however, they were married in a church and took what is normally known for a traditional venue, Cafe Brauer, and turned it into a fun cocktail party with heavy food stations catered by Entertaining Company.  We had candles suspended from the ceiling by Frost Lighting, while Kloeckner’s Florists turned some staple pieces to give the room some WOW!  The Bradley Young Orchestra kept the bride, groom, and all dancing on the dance floor.

We took a traditional space and turned it into a fun cocktail style area where guests wandered throughout the space, had cocktails, danced, and had fun!  We “sprinkled” wedding items in through the night, like a cake cutting, Father of the Bride toast, first dance, and so on!  It was truly magical. Having a fun time was the goal and no matter where they were going to be, they want to make sure that was going to be the case.  Here’s a sneak peak at what we did!

The room was glowing and the bride & groom & family were singing with the band, on stage at the end of the night.  This was truly a FUN celebration!

Tuesday’s Tip – The Royals Have Made Trees at Weddings All the Rage!
September 18, 2012
Thanks to The Royal Wedding last year, we have seen a trend pop up, more and more.  Utilizing trees!  Now, in other markets, it’s pretty common to use trees, but here in Chicago, it has not been so common until this year!  Take a look at some of the weddings we have produced where we use trees to accentuate the spaces!

Wedding was in The Great Hall at Cafe Brauer, Catering was Blue Plate Catering, and Decor was provided by Scarlet Petal.
Same wedding as above, just after the room flip!
Here was another wedding at Cafe Brauer, ceremony on the Loggia, Catering by Entertaining Company & Decor by Scarlet Petal.

This Civil Union took place at The Ivy Room, catering by Food for Thought & Decor by Scarlet Petal.

Receptions of all Sorts, Modern Weddings Part 4
August 9, 2012

In our final recap of wedding receptions of all sorts, we are looking at some modern weddings!  Take a look at some of our favorites!

This first wedding, you can see was at The Rookery.  This was an intimate wedding, with Art of Imagination & Flora who both made this wedding show it’s modern, elegant edge!

This next week took place at Cafe Brauer.  (We work at Brauer a ton and love to share our work there!)  With the help of Scarlet Petal and Blue Plate Catering, this indoor space became the bride’s dream of having an elegant, back yard wedding!

Finally, one of our weddings that has been a huge hit on Facebook & Twitter took place at the Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier.  With the help of Stefani’s Catering creating a customized menu, Event Creative customizing all of the decor pieces, Maggie Speaks keeping the party going all night and Miller + Miller Photography capturing the wedding, it was an affair to remember!

Receptions of All Sorts, Garden Weddings Part 2
August 2, 2012

Many times when you have an outdoor wedding ceremony, at least here in Chicago, the reception will be held inside.  See some of the outdoor weddings that we have done and then moved the guests, indoors, or almost indoors for the wedding reception!

The first look at a garden wedding to the interior is from the Chicago Botanic Gardens.  The reception was held under a tent, over looking a pond with the sides of the tent left open.  Event Creative did a great job with the floral and lighting to make this garden wedding come to life!

Here you will see the indoor space at The Ivy Room.  The room was transformed to look like an indoor garden with lighting by Art of Imagination and floral by Davenport Design!

Here is another look at The Great Hall Cafe Brauer with some lovely florals by Alison at Stems making this room just glow!  As the night went on, the hanging candles from the ceiling helped create the perfect ambient mood!

Watch next week as we look at some more wedding reception transitions!

Ceremonies of All Sorts (Modern Weddings Part 4)
July 12, 2012

This is the final installment of Ceremonies of All Sorts.  This post you are going to see all modern weddings we have done.  In my mind, what constitutes a modern wedding is a wedding at a unique venue for a wedding, like The Rookery, Cafe Brauer, and The Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier.  Take a look at some memorable ceremonies.

Here was a beautiful wedding at the Historic Rookery Building.  Down below you’ll see the fabric draping and lighting by Art of Imagination.  It was a gorgeous ceremony!

Here you’ll find us at Cafe Brauer with Scarlet Petal & Blue Plate Catering.  The wedding was gorgeous and we were able to make the couple, very, very, very happy!

The final modern wedding ceremony took place at the Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier.  Jesse from Event Creative took this one over the top, and with Stefani’s Catering it really was an amazing wedding!

Thanks for following this series!  More to come next week!

The Wedding Sessions Are HERE!
May 31, 2012
A few months ago I came up with this idea to take the blog at Liven It Up Events and instead of posting pictures of our work and some more generic wedding blog stuff, I wanted it to become a platform to answer questions that folks have on planning weddings.  So it began where I would shoot a short video or two every week.  Posting them on he blog and using Facebook and Twitter for all my friends and clients to follow!

My buddy and colleague Wendy Pashman, the owner of Entertaining Company, started following my videos and we began chatting about wedding issues back and forth to each other.  Wendy asked me a question about planners and caterers relationships and I then asked her a question back. It was then that I asked her answer some wedding questions with me on video.  Now if you know Wendy or I, we can not do anything too simple!
We brainstormed first at her office.  Thinking about what are the most common questions and misnomers folks have about planners, catering, and weddings that we hear.  We needed some inspiration so we found ourselves at Le Colonial over afternoon cocktails.  We then walked the grounds at Cafe Brauer, and sat in the showroom at Tablescapes to ponder what are some of the most pressing questions our couples have in planning their wedding and you’ll see next week what we discovered!

Watch over the next couple of weeks as we post our video sessions of “The Wedding Sessions.”  We hope that these video conversations answer questions and help inspire and enlighten couples getting ready to tie the knot!

Romantic Weddings in Chicago We Have Planned
May 24, 2012

Another style of wedding that we know how to plan well is one that is considered by some, more of a Romantic style.  This is where there are lush florals, dim, soft lights, elegant touches on the table arrangements and candle light everywhere!  Take a look at some of the weddings we have done that match that style.

This was a great wedding we had last fall at Harold Washington LibraryBlue Plate was the caterer and was able to delivery a great 3 course meal The bride’s family flower shop provided the flower arrangements and plenty of candles ALL over the room! If I am not mistaken, it takes about 350 candles to go around all of the ledges in the library!

Another wedding we had at A New Leaf where although the space is modern, the low lighting and candles throughout the space make it so romantic.  J&L Catering did a great job with the menu for the one too!

Where else do you get a more romantic feel than the Red Lacquer Room at the Palmer House Hilton?  The room is stunning to begin with.  Fragrant Design brought the bride’s vision of floating snow clouds to life with her beautiful arrangements!

This was another winter romantic wedding we had this year at the Quadrangle Club on the University of Chicago’s Campus and K.La Designs did a fantastic job creating a winter wonderland!

Finally, this wedding at Cafe Brauer this year was really phenomenal!  Blue Plate Catering did a great job with the menu and Scarlet Petal brought the bride’s vision of getting married in her mother’s back yard to the Great Hall!
